James, thanks for providing an additional voice confirming the authenticity of this noodle house. I’ve never been to Hong Kong, but if there are lots of places like Ming Tai there, I will be one happy camper if I ever get to visit

Great point about cherng fun — definitely another nice item here. If only the shrimp dumplings weren’t so tempting!

This is definitely one of those great hole in the wall finds in San Francisco. Having been to Hong Kong a few times, I can say that this place is definitely the closest you can get to a Hong Kong style cafe in San Francisco.

Also try the ‘cherng fun’ which is basically a larger rice based steamed noodle that is rolled and served with soy sauce. You can see them steam it fresh in the tiny kitchen in the back.

PE, the dumplings are totally delicious. I’m not even sure that description is good enough really. They are definitely recommended for anyone who is into dumplings.

This line totally triggered my salivary glands, “Tender, perfectly-cooked, and lightly sweet, these shrimp are supplemented by the subtle earthiness of the wood ear mushroom that is also hiding inside each dumpling.” Wow, I ain’t ever had no dumplings like that! Those dumplings appear to have completely redeemed the soup.

Haha, but the noodles are great! Then again, so are the wontons. I think you win, whichever way you go about it

When I order wontons, I usually order the soup instead of the noodles. More wontons! Then I ask for extra wontons. =D
